Joshua Abney (1799-1860)
     Joshua ABNEY, son of William W. ABNEY and Amelia Bates, was born in December 1810 in Dickson County, Tennessee.

During the War of 1812, Joshua ABNEY enlisted in the 2nd Regiment Tennessee Militia.

Joshua married Sarah Ann Stone on 16 June 1830 in Galatin, Saline County, Illinois.1

Joshua ABNEY and Sarah Ann ABNEY appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 3 October 1850 in Saline, Saline County, Illinois. The household was listed as Joshua Abner, a 38-year-old farmer born in Tennessee; his wife Sarah. 37, born in Virginia; and their children: Jesse, 18; Elizabeth J., 13; Francis M., 12; William, 10; Paul, 9; Winna L., 5; Peter, 4; and Mildred, 1. All of the children were born in Illinois.

Joshua ABNEY and Sarah Ann ABNEY appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 26 June 1860 in Hartford, Saline County, Illinois. The household was listed as Joshua Abney, a 49-year-old farmer; Sally, his 48-year-old wife; and their children: William, 18; Paul, 16, Willie V.(f), 14; Peter F., 12; and Mildred E. Abney, 10.

Joshua ABNEY died on 30 November 1860 in Brushy Township, Saline County, Illinois, at age 49.1 He was buried in Brushy Cemetery, Harco, Saline County, Illinois.
