James Marshall Burt III (1932 - 2016)
     James Marshall BURT III, son of James Marshall BURT Jr. and Anne Jemison WOODWARD, was born on 25 February 1932 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.

James Marshall BURT III died on 17 October 2016 in Homewood, Jefferson County, Alabama, at age 84. He was buried in the Woodward mausoleum in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.

His obituary appeared 19 October 2016 in the Birmingham News, published in Birmingham, Alabama. Handsome and handsomely dressed, romantic, world traveler, writer, intellectual, loved opera, fine books and wines and animals. Appreciative of the little things in life. A gentleman of the old school he was such that man. First grandchild born to Annie (Jemison) and Rick Woodward in Birmingham on February 25, 1932. His maternal grandfather was founder of Birmingham Barons Baseball, and owner of Woodward Iron Company. His paternal grandparents, James M. and Florence Bedell Burt of Opelika, AL. He was the son of the late James M. Burt, Jr. and Anne Woodward Burt Lundbeck of Birmingham, AL. Survived by wife. Sue Anne, and sister, Sandra Burt McGrath of New York and Stuart Fl. Nieces: Eugenia Korosky of London, and Julia Coleman of Sidney, Australia. Nephews: Anthony McGrath, James McGrath of Sidney, Australia and league McGrath of Los Angles, California. Stepchildren Sue Watkins (Warner) and Ella Cole of Birmingham, Patricia Monroe (William) of Atlanta, GA. and Nicholas Raggio of San Francisco, CA. Step grandchildren Warner S. Watkins V and Eugenia Watkins, of Birmingham, Elizabeth Gann Monroe of Atlanta, and Oliver Raggio of San Francisco. Mr. Burt graduated from Yale class of '54, Columbia School of International Affairs and was accepted as a career in Foreign Service Officer. He declined to enter private industry. Mr. Burt was a member of Mountain Brook Club. The Yale Club, and The Knickerbocker Club of New York, Bath and Tennis Club of Palm Beach, Fl. He was a member of Brooks of London. He was proud to be a founding member of Beaux Arts Krewe and Chairman of Birmingham Civic Ballet while living in Birmingham. Mr. Burt resided in San Francisco, Birmingham, Palm Beach, New York and London....all the while in each place he listened to his beloved team, Auburn. Private services will be held for family and close friends at the Woodward mausoleum in Elmwood Cemetery, Friday October 21, 2016 at 11:00 am.
