The Chile, an iron barque of 768tons,
one of the old school, built in 1856, was purchased by the Shaw Savill Co., in 1860, and
continued to trade to the Colony until 1886. She had accomodation for about 250
passengers, and in her twenty years' service she must have landed many thousands of
imigrants, who were distributed at nearly every port.
