FANTHORPE family:
James Fanthorpe was the second child of Charles Fanthorpe and his second wife Mary Smith (nee Brumpton). He was born in Hallington, Lincolnshire on June 14th 1835. Records of his marriage, the births of his children and the Census records of 1851, 1861 and 1871 show that he moved around many of the small villages centering around Louth, in Lincolnshire, and is listed on all documents as being an agricultural labourer. On August 2nd 1858, James married Ann Mawer at Little Carlton, Lincolnshire. Ann, also known as Nancy, was born at Little Carlton, Lincolnshire on September 21st 1835, the daughter of Thomas Mawer and Ann Osbourne. James and Nancy Fanthorpe had nine children, two of whom died prior to the family departing from England for New Zealand. Two daughters, Rose Ann and Harriett, went on to settle in Australia. The rest of the family settled in and around Kimbolton and Fielding, with many of the descendants still in that area. James died on September 8th 1904, and Nancy on November 20th 1923. Both are buried at Kimbolton. If you have an interest in either the Brumpton or Mawer families of Lincolnshire, or the Fanthorpe family in Lincolnshire, New Zealand or Australia please contact Dasha Brandt.
