John and Bernadette (Family Name Unknown) met at the school dance (now commonly referred to as a formal) between girls from Bethlehem Ladies College and boys from De La Salle College, two schools next door to each other in Bland St, Ashfield. The dance was held in December 1959. Both are in school uniform. This night was witness to John's (and possibly Bernadette's) first kiss

helen smythe
John and Helen Smythe went out once in 1963/64 to the premiere of the movie "The V.I.P.s" which was being shown at the State Theatre in Market St, Sydney. Being a premiere, there was a sit down meal and a dance before the screening

dorothy dot chivers
John and Dot met playing competition tennis. They were in different teams but often saw each other when playing at multi-court venues. Dot worked for a stockbroking firm in Sydney. They dated regularly over a couple of years, from about 1963 to 1965. Dot married a man named Bob Jones who she had met at Bankstown Ten Pin Bowling Alley. It's a shame about the position of the wine bottle in the photo

patricia pat bourke; toongabbie
Patricia Bourke (Pat) was the last woman John was involved with before Ellen. They were engaged to be married for a period of about six months in 1966. Pat was the housekeeper for the priests at the presbytery at Toongabbie Catholic Church
