Consolidated morning report, 91st PA, 29 March 1863

Consolidated morning report, 29 March 1863

[previous report (28 Mar) | next report (30 Mar) | search & display multiple days]

[I have proofread this transcription.]
[This report counts Carpenter (D to K), Jones (H), Donnell (I), and Snyder (K) as promoted to commissioned officers. Although they had received commissions, they had not been mustered in as commissioned officers. (The other evidence I have makes this clear with Carpenter, Jones, and Snyder, but not with Donnell.) Starting with the 30th, the reports again count them as enlisted men. See my comments on the 27th's report. I have noted the necessary corrections in the appropriate places below.]
[I have changed the format to improve legibility.]
[Numbers in square brackets and with grey shading are illegible in the manuscript; I have inferred them.]

CONSOLIDATED MORNING REPORT of The Ninety First Regiment of Infantry Pennsylvania Volunteers commanded by Colonel E M. Gregory

NOTE.--Regimental and Battalion Staff Officers, when belonging to companies, will be reported in such companies as "on detached service," and be accounted for in "Field and Staff." They will, however, be dropped from aggregate of "Present and Absent" in Field and Staff, and be accounted for in the aggregate of their respective companies.

[Field Staff etc. has a '3' written over another number. The actual total is 26, but because of the promotions error (see my comments at the top of the file), co.H=2, co.I=1, co.K=1, and the correct total=22]

[co.A has 1 more recruit on light duty, without any reduction in other numbers present or absent. Probably the total of 44 (not 45) is correct, and they had one fewer man present in some other (unfortunately undeterminable) category. co.F has 1 fewer enlisted man absent than on the 28th (absent with leave then), but no additional men present--perhaps one more enlisted man was present (yielding a total of 39 in co.F and 370 in the regiment), having returned from leave. The actual total is 365, but because of the promotion errors (see my comments at the top of the file), co.D=36, co.H=38, co.I=22, co.K=33, and the correct total is 369.]
