4 am. again ordered to support Sheridan, who was moving against Five Forks. 16th Mich and 91st PA were under Lt Col Sellers' command. 16th Mich were formed in line on the edge of the woods on the right of the road leading to Five Points, on the right of and about 30 paces behind the second line of the 3d Div, 5th Corps. The 91st was on their right. about 3 pm. they moved forward about 300 yards. drove enemy at double-quick step for about one mile. moved to left to cross a stream; ascended a hill after crossing it, and Confederates fired a few shots wounding four men of 91st PA. drove off enemy. recrossed stream and took up position on right of 3d Div, who had moved to the left. line moved forward, capturing many enemy. moved about 5 miles, most at double-quick. halted about dark on right of General Baxter's Brigade, 3d div, 5th corps, on White Oak Road, about 2 miles from Five Points. Followed 3d Div down road, and went into camp near brigade headquarters, about 200 yards from crossroads, about 9 pm. Also, a detail from the 91st secured some captured wagons and mules, which a 3d Div staff officer said were in danger of being recaptured. General Griffin succeeded General Warren in command of the Fifth Corps. Lee and his army surrendered.
Reached nearly to Appomattox Court House about 8 am. Command drawn up in line with skirmishers deployed. Advanced under cover of a ridge. Confederates sent in flag of truce. Command marched through town; brigade placed in position beyond it. Walter reached the regiment about 11; the regiment was in line of battle just to the right of the town. Many of the men were sleeping, with the rebels 1/4 of a mile ahead.
