- he had received boots, which were too large for marching ('when too big the[y] slip up and down and take the skin off'), but when he added a pair of insoles from old shoes they fit well
- he stockings were all right
- Jim McCullough wanted them to tell his wife where they got the boots, so she could get him a pair also
