According to one late report, the regiment was split between men associated with the YMCA or another religious organization ("Gregory's pets"), and those who weren't.(3)

On 15 December 1861, Colonel Gregory was scheduled to speak at a meeting organized by the YMCA (5).

On 19 January 1862, Colonel Gregory spoke at a meeting organized by the YMCA.(1, 2)

On 28 June 1863, Colonel Gregory was scheduled to speak at a meeting organized by the YMCA.(4).
