[This descriptive roll seems to have been reconstructed some time after the regiment re-enlisted as veteran volunteers. Here are a few of the pieces of evidence for that conclusion. First, many of the men who originally enlisted in 1861 according to Bates, and who became veteran volunteers, are recorded as having enlisted in December 1863, when they re-enlisted as veteran volunteers. Second, according to Joseph Campbell's entry, he was transferred to company G of the 91st "P.V.V", although he was transfered in 1861, and "P[ennsylvania] V[eteran] V[olunteers]" applies to the regiment only after December 1863. Another bit of evidence comes from the entry for Andrew Flemming. According to Bates, he initially enlisted in company K, and was later transferred to company E. But the descriptive roll has him enlisted by Captain Lentz. I suspect they recorded everyone as enlisted by Captain Lentz. Interestingly, the person they were mustered in by varies; I suspect that is accurate.]
[I have made three changes to improve legibility. First, because the table takes up two pages for each person, I've re-oriented it vertically for each person, repeating the headings for each person. I have separated each entry--one line in the manuscript--by a line. Second, the first "remarks" line for each person has a name written at the right. In a few cases, the name is preceded by "Mustered into service by" or ditto marks, but in most cases the ditto marks are written over, or were never present. I have put the name on a separate line. Third, I have started new remarks on a new line; in the original they are run together, to save space.]
