Before the war

He was born in 1847/48 (2 (17 in 1865), 5 (72 in 1920)). He was born in Pennsylvania (2, 5).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 2). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 17 March 1865 (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by Captain Blair (2). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 6-8).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 4). He was a private, in company H (6-8).

After the war

On 18 August 1890, he applied successfully from Indiana for a pension (3, 4).

On 14 August 1909, he again applied for a pension (4).

In 1920, he was living in the unincorporated town of Keystone, Chester Township, Wells County, Indiana (5). He was living with his wife Amanda (5). He was a restaurant keeper (5).

He died on 24 March 1928, at Montpelier, Indiana (4).
