Before the war

He married Violeta Louisa [unknown family name]. She was born in 1813/14, in Delaware. They had three known children:

In 1850, he was living in Locust Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his (presumed) wife Louisa, and their (presumed) children Thomas and John. He was a carpenter. [source: 6]

In 1860, he was living in ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his (presumed) wife Louisa, and their (presumed) children Thomas, John, and Samuel. He was a carpenter. [source: 10]

When he enlisted, he was a carpenter. [source: 2]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10-1/2 inches tall, had a dark complexion, black eyes, and grey hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He was mustered into service for three years in company E on 3 September 1861, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was enlisted by Captain Lentz, and mustered into service by Captain Starr. [source: 1, 2, 5, 7]

He was discharged on 29 July 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability, at Alexandria, Virginia. He was a private, in company E. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7]

After the war

On 30 November 1869, he applied unsuccessfully for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]

In 1870, he was living in ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his (presumed) wife Violleta L, and their (presumed) children Thomas, John, and Samuel. [source: 11]

In 1880, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Violetta, his sons Thomas, John, and Samuel, and Samuel's family. He was a carpenter, but had been unemployed for 12 months in the previous year. [source: 12]

On 26 September 1880, he died, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of congestion of the brain. He was married, and his occupation was box making. He died at, or was buried from, rear 1226 Fitzwater Street. On Wednesday 29 September 1880, he was buried, in Lafayette Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 9]

On 26 August 1887, his widow, Violeta Louisa McComb, died. She died at, or was buried from, rear 1226 Fitzwater Street, ward 3, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She died of debility. On 29 August 1887, she was buried, in Machpelah Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 13]
