He married Mary Ling on 23 October 1853, in Pleasantville, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9).

In 1860, he was living in St Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Mary and children Clara, George, Alexander, and William (6). He was a farmer, and owned $2,000 in real estate and $500 in personal property (6).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (4).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 4). His service was credited to the sixteenth congressional district (4). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1 [21 Sep 61], 4 [21 Sep 64], 5 [21 Sep 64]). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (4). He was a private in company I (1, 12-15).

After the war

In 1890, he was living in Alum Bank, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5). He had piles, a rupture, and heart disease (5).

He died on 4 March 1894, in Alum Bank, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9, 11).

He was buried in the Pleasantville Cemetery, West St Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (2).

On 18 April 1894, his widow, Mary A McGrigor, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (10, 11).
