Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-3/4 inches tall, had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service for three years as a private in company E on 20 August 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 14). He was enlisted by Captain Lentz, and mustered into service by Colonel Reiff (2).

He was discharged on 5 December 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3). He was a private, in company E (14).

After the war

On 10 October 1864, he became a naturalized US citizen, in the District Court of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13).

In 1870, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was a laborer, and owned $100 in personal property (9). He was living with his wife Catharine (9). He was a citizen (9).

He applied successfully for a pension on 10 September 1879 (4, 11).

In 1880, he was living at 1407 Hancock Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was a laborer, but had been out of work for twelve months (5). He was living with his wife Catharine, who was a storekeeper (5).

On 7 December 1887, he died of apoplexy (12). He died at, or was buried from, 1405 Hancock Street, 17th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was married (12). He was a laborer (12). On 12 December 1887, he was buried, at Cathedral Cemetery (12).

His widow, Catharine McKeever, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 14 April 1880 (perhaps 1890?) (4, 11).

In 1890, Catharine McKeever was living at 1405 Hancock, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6, 7). She had a varieties store (7).

In 1900, his widow, Catharine McKeever, was living at 1404 North Hancock Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). She had had no children (10). She was living with her brother, John McColgan (10).
