Before the war

He was born in 1824/25 (4 (36 in 1861), 8 (38 in 1860), 9 (51 in 1870), 12 (50 at death in 1870)). He was born in Tyrone, Ireland (4, 8, 9, 12).

In 1860, he was living in the 17th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with Rosanna (presumably his wife) and John, William, Joseph, and Annie (presumably his children) (8). He was a weaver, and owned $100 in personal property (8).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 11 September 1861 (1, 4, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (4). He was a private in company G (1, 13).

He was discharged at camp near Falmouth, Virginia, on 6 February 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability, by order of General Sykes (1, 2 [5 Feb], 3 [illegible, but probably not 6 Feb], 4 [probably 6 Feb], 5 [11 Sep 63]). He was a private, in company G (13).

After the war

On 4 June 1863, he applied successfully for a pension (7, 11).

In 1870, he was living in the 17th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with Rosa (presumably his wife), and John, William, Annie, Joseph, James, Martha, and Thomas (presumably his children) (9). He was a cotton weaver (9).

On 11 July 1870, he died, of cirrhosis of liver (12). He died at, or was buried from, Philip above Master, 17th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was buried at Cathedral Cemetery, on 14 July 1870 (12). He was a weaver (12). He was married (12).

On 19 November 1870, his widow, Rose McAleer, applied successfully for a pension (7, 11).

In 1880, his widow, Rosy McAleer, was living at 557 Fox Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). She was living with her son William and his siblings (10).

In 1890, his widow, Rose McAleer, was living at 2338 East Huntingdon Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5, 6). He had had a rupture (5).
