Before the war

He was born in 1837/38 (2 (27 in 1865), 5 (79 in 1920)). He was born in Ireland (2, 5 [New York]).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a ruddy complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He also served in company I of the 11th New York Infantry (3, 4).

He enlisted and was mustered into service for one year, as a substitute, on 20 March 1865, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 4 [Feb 65]). He was enlisted and mustered into service by Captain Strouse (2). He was a private in company E (1, 6-7).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4 [May/June 65]). He was a private, in company E (6-7).

After the war

On 6 August 1890, he applied successfully from New York for a pension (3, 4).

In 1920, he was living at 808 Putnam Avenue, Brooklyn, New York City, New York (5). He was living with his wife Mary C and son Arthur G (5). He was a clerk, for the city (5).

He died on 16 June 1920, at Brooklyn, New York (4).

On 20 July 1920, his widow, Mary C McMannus, applied successfully from New York for a pension (3, 4).
