Before the war

He was born in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, in 1828/29, to George Eamigh and Elizabeth Adams. [sources: date: 3 (35 in 1864), 5 (51 in 1880), 7 (41 in 1870), 8 (20 in 1850), 9 (29 in 1860), 13 (1829), 16 (1829), 17 (1830). place: 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17. parents: 16, 17]

In 1850, he was living in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Cornelius and Elizabeth Crum (apparently his mother and stepfather), along with Solomon, Ruth, George, and Margaret Emigh (apparently siblings). He was a carpenter. [source: 8]

He married Mary Ann Plummer. She was born on 15 November 1829 (or 1828?), in Pennsylvania. In 1900 and 1910, she reported having had nine children, two of whom were alive, including:

In 1860, he was living in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary, and children William, John, and Josiah. He was a farmer, and owned $300 in personal property. [source: 9]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair. [source: 3]

During the war

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 September 1864. He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was a private, in company G. [sources: 1, 3, 19, 20]

He was discharged at Chester, Pennsylvania, on 15 June 1865 by general order, War Department. He was a private, in company G. [sources: 1, 2, 19, 20]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Gulich Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary, and with William, John, Josiah, Charlotta, Harvey, Abram, and Silas (presumably their children). He was a teamster, and owned $590 in personal property. [source: 7]

On 27 June 1873, he applied successfully for a pension. [sources: 4, 6]

In 1880, he was living in Juniata Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary, and his children Charlotte, Harry, and Abraham. He was a farmer. [source: 5]

On 12 March 1881, he died. He was buried in Mount Union Cemetery, Summerhill, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 13, 16, 17]

On 23 August 1886, his widow, Mary A Amigh, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 4, 6]

In 1890, his widow, Mary A Emigh, was living in East Conemaugh Borough, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. She had lost his discharge. [source: 10]

In 1900, his widow, Mary Amigh, was living in East Conemaugh Borough, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her grandson James A Henderson [?]. [source: 11]

In 1910, his widow, Mary Ann Amigh, was living in East Taylor Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son Harvey E Amigh. [source: 12]

On 29 March 1913, Mary Ann Amigh died. She was buried in the Mount Union Cemetery, Summerhill, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. [source: 14]

John Amigh (45th PA) married to Isabella

A John Amigh, married to Isabella Merriman, lived in Franklin, [Cambria County?], Pennsylvania. He served as a private in company E of the 45th Pennsylvania Infantry. They were married in a town starting with a 'P' in Centre County, by a Justice of the Peace, and had seven children, with only two living by the early 1900's. He successfully applied for a pension on 25 February 1863. He died on 28 July 1888. She successfully applied for a pension on 3 September 1888 (and was added to the pension list by 10 January 1890). They are both buried in Franklin Cemetery.
