Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, as a substitute, on 25 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Washington, DC, by Captain Loyd. He was a private in company I. [sources: 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He served for six months. He was a private, in company I. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in the Empire Lodging House, ward 3, San Francisco, San Francisco, California. He was a cook. [source: 8]

In 1880, he may have been living in Almaden Township, Santa Clara County, California. He was a miner. [source: 9]

On 23 February 1892, he unsuccessfully applied from California for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]

On 16 May 1892, he was admitted to the Veterans' Home of California. He was admitted from Santa Cruz. He had rheumatism. He was a miner. He was single. He was apparently not receiving a pension. [source: 3]

He died on 24 September 1892. He was buried in the Veterans Memorial Grove Cemetery, Yountville, Napa County, California (section B row 5 grave 23). [sources: 3, 6, 7]
