John Bateman died on 8 October 1881, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of consumption. He was buried on 11 October 1881, in Odd Fellows' Cemetery. He died at, or was living at, 1739 North 9th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [sources: 2 (of a rupture), 8]
