George Peter [?] Baumeister

Before the war

He was born on 11 May 1818, in Bevern (Bedin?). [sources: date: 5. 2 (44 in 1861), 3 (52 in 1870), 4 (62 in 1880), 7 (possibly 43 in 1860). place: 3 (Bevern), 4 (Bedin), 7 (possibly Byern)]

He married Elizabeth Fuhfing. She was born in 1811/1812, in Bevern. They may have had at least one child: Susanna Baumaster (born 1848/49, Byern, perhaps married [unknown] Coleman). [sources: 3, 4, 6, 7]

In 1860, he may be the Peter Baumaster who was living in Williams Township, Northampton County. He was living with Elizabeth (apparently his wife), and with Susanna (apparently their daughter). He was a laborer, and owned $500 in real estate and $250 in personal property. [source: 7]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 8 October 1861. He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was mustered in, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I. [sources: 1 (8 Oct), 2 (3 Oct), 10, 11]

He was discharged on 21 July 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability. He was a private, in company I. [sources: 1, 2 (21 Jul 62), 10, 11]

After the war

On 19 May 1866, Susan Baumeister married Benjamin Colemann, in St John's Lutheran Church, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Aaron [sic] and Elisabeth Baumeister. Benjamin Coleman was born on 12 January 1843, died on 16 January 1867, and was buried in the Arndts and Messinger Cemetery, Forks Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 8, 9]

In 1870, he was living in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania (post office Saxton). He was living with his wife Elisabeth and his granddaughter Susan Coleman. He was a laborer, and owned $1,000 in real estate, and $200 in personal property. [source: 3]

In 1880, he was living in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary Elizabeth, and granddaughter E S Coleman. He was working in an iron mine. [sources: 4]

On 11 October 1896, he died. He was buried in Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. His wife, Elizabeth, is also buried there. [sources: 5, 6]
