When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a sandy complexion, hazel eyes, and sandy hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He served twice before enlisting in the 91st Pennsylvania. [source: 4]

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 16 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd. He was mustered in, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 4 (1864), 5, 11]
