In 1850, he was living in Penn District, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his (presumed) wife Margaret, and (presumed) children John, Michael I, Catherine C, and Mary A. He was a laborer. [source: 13]

In 1860, he was living in ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with Margaret (presumably his wife), and with John, Michael, Catherine, Mary, Thomas, and Margaret (presumably their children). He was a day laborer. [source: 11]

When he enlisted, he was living in Philadelphia. [source: 3]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 14 February 1862, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a private in company B. [sources: 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 (4 Feb 62), 14]

He was discharged in December 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability. He had chronic rheumatism, which he contracted after the Battle of Antietam. He had served for eleven months. He was a private, in company B. [sources: 1, 3, 4 (1863), 6, 7, 9 (Jan 1863), 14]

After the war

He lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after his discharge. [source: 9]

In 1870, he was living in ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with Martha (presumably his wife), May [or Mary], Kate, Thomas, Maggie, and Ellen (presumably their children). He was a laborer. [source: 12]

On 20 July 1876, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. [sources: 7, 9]

In 1880, he was present at the Central Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was a laborer, and had been out of work for twelve months in the previous year. [source: 8]

On 6 July 1882, he applied for free transportation to and from Philadelphia. His application was denied. [source: 9]

In 1882, he was present at the Central Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. He had rheumatism. He was not receiving a pension [source: 7]

In 1890, he was living in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Montgomery County, Ohio. He had rheumatism. [source: 4]

On 25 July 1890, he successfully applied from Ohio for a pension. He received a pension of $12 per month. [sources: 5, 6, 9]

On 19 September 1891, he died, in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, of aortic stenosis. His body was shipped to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had $9.75 in cash, and $0.75 from his pension, which was paid to his daughter. On 23 September 1891, he was buried, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 9, 10]
