Elias Burkett

Before the war

He was born in 1835/36 (4 (29 in 1864), 9 [24 in 1860], 10 [34 in 1870], 11 [44 in 1880]). He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (4, 9, 10, 11). He was born to Abraham and Elizabeth Burket (7, 8).

He married Elizabeth Lambright (7, 8). They had at least nine children (7, 12 [12 children in 1900, 7 alive], 13 [10 children in 1910, 7 alive]):

In 1860, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Lucinda (9). He was a farm laborer, and owned $700 in real estate and $100 in personal property (9).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (4).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 4). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1 [21 Sep 61], 4, 5). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (4). His service was credited to the 16th Congressional District (4). He was a private in company G (1, 16).

He was discharged on 30 March 1865 by general order (1) or by general order 26, War Department, on 1 June 1865, near Washington, DC (3, 5 [5 June]). He was a private, in company G (16).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and children Lucinda, George, Shanon, Richard, Elizabeth, and Mary (10). He was a farm laborer, and owned $700 in real estate and $100 in personal property (10).

In 1880, he was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and nine children (11). He was a farmer (11).

In 1890, he was living in Mowrys Mills, Kimmel Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (5).

On 8 August 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 15).

He died on 27 February 1898, of consumption, at Queen, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7 [citing Bedford County death notice board, post by Wayne F Seibert, 19 Feb 2003], 8, 15). He was buried in Mt Zion Cemetery, near Pavia, Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7).

On 9 April 1898, his widow, Elizabeth Burket, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 15).

In 1900, his widow, Elizabeth Burket, was living in Kimmell Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (12). She was living with her daughter Ada and two granddaughters (12). She was a farmer (12).

In 1910, his widow, Elizabeth Burket, was living in Kimmel Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (13). She was living with her son Richard and two grandchildren (13).

In 1920, his widow, Elizabeth Burket, was living in East St Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (14). She was living with her daughter Lucinda and Lucinda's family (14).

Elizabeth Burket died on 23 February 1923, in Pavia, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (8).
