William Henry ("Henry") Bushman

Before the war

He was born on 16 October 1846 (8; 3 (18 in 1865), 5 [13 in 1860], 6 [23 in 1860], 7 [13 in 1850]). He was born in Cashtown, Franklin Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (3, 5, 6, 8). He was born to William Ernest Bushman and Appolonia Saunders (5, 7, 8).

In 1850, he was living in Hamiltonban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with William H and Appolian [sic] Bushman (presumably his parents) and with John, Thomas, Mary, and Samuel Bushman (presumably his siblings) (7).

In 1860, he was living in Hamiltonban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (post office Fairfield) (5). He had attended school within the year (5). He was living with William and Appolonia Bushman (presumably his parents), and six other children (presumably his siblings) (5).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 March 1865 (1, 3). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster (3). His enlistment was credited to the sixteenth congressional district (3). He was a private in company A (1, 9).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1). He was a private, in company A (9).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Franklin Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a carpenter (6). He was still living with William and Appolonia Bushman (6).

He died on 20 June 1870 (8).

His mother, Abbie Bushman, applied unsuccessfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 5 September 1890 (2, 4). His father, William Bushman, also applied unsuccessfully from Pennsylvania for a pension, on 13 February 1892 (2, 4).
