Before the war

He was born in August 1837, in Pennsylvania, perhaps to Eli and Sarah Cameron. [sources: date: 9; 2 (24 in 1861), 4 (14 in 1850), 5 (22 in 1860), 6 (30 in 1870), 7 (43 in 1880), 9 (62 in 1900), 11 (72 in 1910), 15 (53 in 1890). place: 4, 5, 7, 9, 15. parents: 4.

In 1850, he was living in the 4th ward, of Spring Garden, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Eli and Sarah Cameron (presumably his parents), and six other children (presumably his siblings). He had attended school within the year. [source: 4]

In 1860, he was living in the 20th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a conductor. [source: 5]

When he enlisted, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 2]

During the war

He also served in William B Mann's Independent Company of Pennsylvania Militia, company I of the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, and company B of the 22nd Pennsylvania Infantry. He was a lieutenant in company I. He served for two months. [sources: 3, 13, 14]

He enlisted in the 22nd Pennsylvania in April 1861, and was discharged in August 1861. Company B of the 22nd Pennsylvania Infantry was recruited in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and mustered in on 23 April 1861. The 22nd Pennsylvania Infantry mustered out on 7 August 1861. [sources: 8, 10]

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 10 October 1861. He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was mustered in, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I. [sources: 1, 2, 14, 20 (sgt)]

He was discharged on 22 January 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability. He was first sergeant of company I. He had served for fifteen months. [sources: 1, 2, 13 (sgt), 15, 20]

After the war

In 1865/68, he married Emma J Ogden. She was born 9 June 1846, in Pennsylvania, to Charles Ogden and Mary Fletcher. They had one child:

In 1870, he was living in the 10th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with Emma (presumably his wife) and Horrace (presumably their son). [source: 6]

In 1880, he was living at 869 West Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a physician. His wife Emma was living with him. [source: 7]

In 1890, he was living at 219 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had experienced sunstroke. [source: 8]

On 11 July 1890, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. [source: 14]

He applied successfully from Virginia for a pension on 12 July 1890. [sources: 3, 13]

In 1900, he was living at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Southern Branch, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. He was a physician. His wife, Emma J Cameron, was living at 1814 Jefferson [?] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was an auditor. [sources: 9, 11]

On 12 August 1907, he again applied for a pension. [source: 13]

In 1910, he was living at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Southern Branch, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. [source: 11]

He died on 31 July 1913, at the Southern Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Hampton, Virginia. He was buried there. [sources: 13, 14 (2 Aug 13), 17 (2 Aug)]

His widow, Emma J Cameron, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 20 October 1913. [sources: 3, 13]

She is probably the Emma J Cameron who died on 25 June 1914 of uremia (duration 7 days), with arteriosclerosis and chronic interstitial nephritis contributing, at Medico-Chirurgical Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On 29 June 1914 she was buried in Mt Vernon Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [sources: 15, 16]
