In 1849/50, he married Catherine [unknown family name]. She was born on 11 July 1821, in Pennsylvania. They had one known child:

In 1860, his wife Catharine, and their daughter Ida, were living in ward 9, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is not listed with them in the census. [source: 33]
On 14 July 1860, his daughter Ida Carie died, of dysentery. She died at 1712 Barker Street, ward 9, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On 16 July 1860, she was buried, at Monument Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 32]

On 29 June 1862, he, along with the other commissioned officers in the regiment (except Colonel Gregory), signed a statement denying accusations that they were on the verge of open mutiny, that the regiment had been reduced to 400 men, and that Colonel Gregory was too lenient to Confederates and too harsh to men in the regiment. On 20 August 1862, he testified at E Carroll Brewster's court martial. He testified that he had been Officerof the Day with Brewster serving as Officer of the Guard under him several times, and Brewster had been attentive to his duty as far as he knew. [source: 9]

On 8 April 1865, he swore to information supporting Annie Maguire's application for a pension based on the service of her husband James Maguire (I). [source: 36]

He died on 2 June 1907, at 1111 Spruce Street, ward 8, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of pneumonia (2 days duration), with senile decay contributing. He was buried from his late residence at 1111 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was buried in the Beechwood Cemetery, Hulmeville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
