Before the war

He was born in 1835/36 (2 (28 in 1864), 5 [42 in ?1884], 6 [42 in ?1883], 8 [53 yrs at death in 1894]). He was born in Killdare, Ireland (2, 5, 6, 8).

When he enlisted, he was a teamster (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, had a light complexion, dark eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, as a recruit, for three years, on 29 January 1864, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted by Lieutenant Shipley, and was mustered into service by Lieutenant Burke (2). He was a private in company E (1, 2, 10).

He was wounded in the arm, while on the skirmish line, on 27 October 1864 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia (1, 2).

He was discharged on 27 March 1865, at Emory, Washington DC, on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 3, 4 [29 Mar]). He had served for twelve months (6). He was a private, in company E (10).

After the war

On 1 April 1865, he successfully applied for a pension (7, 9).

He was admitted to the National Soldiers Home on 15 July 1883 (5, 6). He was admitted from Pennsylvania (6).

In 1884, he was present at the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (5). He had a wound in his body (5, 6). He was receiving a pension of $8 per month (5).

In 1890, he was living at the National Soldiers Home, Southern Branch, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia (4). He had had a gunshot wound to his right groin (4).

He was receiving a pension of $17 per month, probably in 1894 (6).

He died of septicaemia and uraemia, on 19 May 1894, in Philadelphia [?] (6 [22 May, in Southern Branch?], 8 [19 May, Philadelphia], 9). He died at, or was buried from, 2651 Anthracite Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was then a brick layer (8). He was buried on 22 May 1894 at Mount Moriah Cemetery (8).
