He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1843/45, perhaps to William Coulston and Elizabeth S [unknown family name]. [sources: date: 3 (17 in 1861), 9 (5 in 1850), 10 (16 in 1860), 11 (48 in 1893). place: 9, 10, 11. parents: 9, 10.

In 1850, he was living in ward 1, Spring Garden, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with William K and Elizabeth S Coulston (presumably his parents), and with William, David, J Warren, and Thomas Coulston (presumably his siblings). He had attended school within the year. [source: 9]

In 1860, he was living in ward 10, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with William Coulson (presumably his father), with Warren Coulson (presumably his brother), and with others. They were apparently living at 228 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [sources: 10, 12]

During the war

He also served in company C of the 58th Pennsylvania Infantry. [source: 4]

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 7 October 1861. He was a musician in company B. [sources: 1, 3, 4, 15-16]

After the war

In 1880, he may have been a stable boss, living at 1126 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 12]

In 1883, he may have been a driver, living at 339 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 12]

In 1892-93, he was a driver, living at 134 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 12]

On 2 May 1893, he died, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of organic heart disease, and aortic stenosis, secondary to aortitis. He was a manager. Note on identification

Since the Harrison Coulston who served in the 91st was not married according to his death certificate (11), the Harrison Coulston who lived in Norristown and was married to Ann (see 'sources checked unsuccessfully' below) is not the correct Harrison Coulston.
