Before the war

He was born in March 1831 (5; 2 (37 in 1865), 4 [50 in 1880], 5 [69 in 1900]). He was born in Ireland (2, 4, 5).

He immmigrated to the US in 1848 (5).

When he enlisted, he was a brickm[aker?] (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted from the fifth congressional district (1, 2). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 March 1865 (1, 2, 7). He was enlisted for one year, at Frankford, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yardley (2). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 8, 9).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 7). He was a private, in company H (8, 9).

After the war

In 1880, he was living at 121 Cambria Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He was living with his wife Nancy and children Mary and Hazlet Junior (4). He was a brickmaker, and had been out of work for six months in the previous year (4).

On 13 February 1892, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 7).

In 1900, he was living at 1825 Cambria Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his daughter Mary and her husband (5). He was a brickmaker, and had not been out of work in the previous year (5). He was a naturalized citizen (5).

On 5 May 1907, he again applied for a pension (7).

In 1910, he was living at 3029 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his son Hazlet and granddaughter Laura Billington (6). He was not working (6).

He died on 14 July 1921, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).
