Daniel Embody

Before the war

He was born in November 1833, in Pennsylvania, perhaps to Michael and Catharine Imbody. [sources: date: 9; 6 (25 in 1860), 7 (36 in 1870), 8 (47 in 1880), 9 (66 in 1880), 11 (11 October 1833), 12 (16 in 1850), 14 (31 in 1863). place: 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14. parents: 12]

In 1850, he was living in New Hanover, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Michael and Catharine Imbody (perhaps his parents), and with Jacob, David, and Mathilda (perhaps his siblings). He was a carpenter. [source: 12]

In 1854 or 1855, he married Catharine Keyser. She was born in September 1837, in Pennsylvania. They apparently had eleven children, including:

In 1860, he was living in Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Catharine, and Edwin and Nathaniel (presumably his children). He was a carpenter, and owned $150 in personal property. [source: 6]

In June 1863, he registered for the draft (along with his apparent brother David Imbody). He was a carpenter, and was living in Frederick, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. [source: 14]

During the war

He was drafted. He was mustered into service on 15 March 1865. He was a private in company B. [sources: 1, 10, 16, 17]

He may have been charged for lost equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out. [source: 2]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Kate, and his children Edwin, Nathaniel, Daniel, Aaron, Jonas, and Mary. He was a farmer, and owned $1,500 in personal property. [source: 7]

In 1880, he was living in Pottsgrove, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Catharine, and children Daniel, Aaron, Jonas, Mary, Hannah, and Horace. He was a laborer. [source: 8]

In 1890, he was living in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. [source: 5]

On 18 October 1894, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 3, 4]

In 1900, he was living in Pottstown Borough, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Catharine, and his grandson William Krause. He was a capitalist [sic]. [source: 9]

On 16 February 1904, he died. He was buried in the Pottstown Cemetery, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 10 (West End, Pottstown), 11]

On 8 March 1904, his widow, Catharine Embody, successfully applied for a pension. [sources: 3, 4]

In 1910, his widow, Catherine Imbody, was living at 321 Evans Street, in ward 8, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her grandson William Krause. [source: 13]

His widow, Catharine Embody, died on 1 April 1918. She was buried in the Pottstown Cemetery, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. [source: 11]
