Before the war

He was born in 1835/36 (2 (29 in 1865), 6 [54 in 1892], 7 [54 in 1892], 8 [54 in 1892]). He was born in Germany (2, 6, 7, 8).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 1 inch tall, and had a fair complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Patterson (2). He was a private in company C (1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 5). He had served for four months (6, 7, 8). He was a private, in company C (9, 10).

After the war

In 1890, he was living in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (3).

On 13 August 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5).

On 25 July 1892, he was admitted from Pennsylvania to the National Soldiers Home (6, 7, 8).

In 1893, he was present at the Central Branch of the National Soldiers Home (7). He was receiving a pension of $8 per month (7). He had chronic diarrhea (7).

In 1902, he was receiving a pension of $8 per month, and had diarrhea (6).

He again applied for a pension on 17 November 1908 (5).

He died on 2 January 1916, at the National Military Home in Ohio (5, 8). He was then receiving a pension of $21 per month (8).
