David Faunce

Before the war

He was born on 3 December 1819, to George Faunce Jr and Mary [unknown family name] (12, 14). He was 45 years old when he was enrolled (4, 6, 10 [41 in 1860], 11 [52 in 1870], 12 [80 in 1900], 13 [30 in 1850], 15 [81 at death]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6, 10, 11, 12, 13).

He was baptized on 10 August 1826, at the First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14).

He married Mary Ann Franklin on 23 May 1844 (14). They had five children (14):

In 1850, he was living in ward 5, Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Mary, with his children Mary and William, and with his brother- and sister-in-law Albert and Martha Chester (13). He was a glass blower (13).

In 1860, he was living in the 18th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Mary, and children Mary, William, Eugene, and Irana [?] (10). He was a glassblower (10).

When he enlisted, he was a glass blower (6).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (6).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 16 January 1864, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 6, 7 [Dec 63], 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Cadwallader (3, 6). He was mustered by Captain Cadwallader (3, 6). He was a private in company B (1, 18).

On 22 June 1865, he went on a furlough, which expired on 7 July 1865 (2).

He seems not to have been charged for lost equipment, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (5).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 7 [Jun 65], 9). He was a private, in company B (18).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in the 18th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was a fisherman (11).

In 1880, his wife, Mary Faunce, was living at 1125 Nienna Street, ward 18, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (16). She was living with her son William, her mother Elizabeth, her sister Martha Chester, and others (16 [she is listed as a boarder]). She was a dressmaker (16). (According to the census, she was widowed or divorced (16).

In 1890, he was living at 425 Wildey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7, 8). He was a glassblower (8).

On 1 July 1890, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (9, 17).

In 1900, he was living at 1106 Palmer Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was a gentleman (that is, retired) (12).

He died on 10 November 1901, of cerebral softenings (9, 14, 15). He was then widowed (15). He was a glassblower (15). He died at, or was buried from, 1112 Palmer Street (15). On 14 November 1901, he was buried, in Palmer Burial Ground, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (14, 15).
