Before the war

He was born in 1815/16 (2 (45 in 1861), 3 [36 in 1850]). He was born near Trenton, New Jersey (2, 3).

In 1850, he was living in ward 8, Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He was living with Ann (presumably his wife), John, James, George, Mary, and Henry (presumably his children), and two others (presumably boarders or lodgers) (3). He was a spinner, and owned $300 in real estate (3).

When he enlisted, he was a spin[ner] (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 1-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 30 October 1861 (1, 2). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Brown (2). He was mustered in as a private in company H, by Captain Brown (1, 2, 4). (However, his name was not put on the muster roll (2).) He had rifle number 72 (2).

He was discharged by general order (1, 2). He was a private, in company H (4).
