Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He also served in company H of the 30th Pennsylvania Militia Infantry. [sources: 4, 11]

He also served in company C of the 35th Pennsylvania Infantry (6th Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry), which was recruited in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He mustered in on 20 May 1861. He mustered out on 20 December 1862, on surgeon's certificate of disability. [sources: 4, 11, 12, 13 (in 13 May 61, out 29 Jan 63)]

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 12 October 1863, in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted for three years, at Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was a private, in company C of the 91st Pennsylvania. [sources: 1 (does not mention the transfer), 2 (includes him in a list of people transferred), 3, 19]

After the war

On 20 July 1867, he married Lydia M Avery, in Pennsylvania. She was born in February 1838, in England. In 1900 and 1910, she had had three children, all of whom were alive. Their children include:

In 1870, he was living in Dyberry Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He was a painter, and owned $1,500 in real estate and $400 in personal property. He was living with his wife Lydia, and with his children Eva, Edwin, and Harley. [source: 5]

He again applied for a pension on 13 March 1907. [source: 11]

On 19 November 1909, he died, in Dyberry [?] Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He died of cerebral hemorrhage, with arteriosclerosis contributing. He was a painter.
