When he enlisted, he was a carpenter. [source: 8]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, light eyes, and light hair. [source: 8]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 20 August 1861. He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr. He was a corporal in company A. [sources: 1, 7, 8, 9, 19-26]

At some point, he was promoted to commissary sergeant. At some point, he was reduced to the ranks. [source: 7]

On 8 September 1863, Sinex reported that he was in Philadelphia and able to rejoin the regiment, and requested his return. [source: 3]

On 26 September 1863, he was reported regained from duty in hospital. [source: 5]

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve and were not willing to reenlist. On 2 Jauary 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave. [sources: 4, 6]

He was wounded on 10 May 1864 at Spottsylvania Court House, Virginia. [sources: 1, 14]

He was discharged on 24 September 1864 on surgeon's certificate of disability. He was a private, in company A. [sources: 1, 8, 9 (23 Sep 64), 13, 19-26]

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 18 January 1866. [sources: 2, 10]

He married Jane [unknown family name]. She was born in 1847/48, in Pennsylvania. They apparently had two children: [sources: 11, 12, 16, 17]

In 1870, he was living in the 14th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a carpenter, and owned $100 in personal property. He was living with his wife Jane, son Jacob, and May McClintock. [source: 11]

In 1880, he was living at 1231 [?] Melon [??] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a carpenter. He was living with his wife Jenny and two sons. [source: 12]

He died on 1 November 1881, of a carbuncle. He was married. He died at, or was buried from, 1231 Mellon Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was buried on 4 November 1881, at Mount Moriah Cemetery. [source: 15]

Jane Geisenhoffer, his widow, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 2, 10]

In 1890, his widow, Jane Geisenhoffer, was living at 1231 Melon Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [source: 9]

Probably in fall 1900, his widow, Jane, was living at 2442 North 13th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was living with her sons Harry (a binder) and Jacob (a clerk). [source: 18]

In 1910, his widow, Jane Geisenhoffer, was living at 1524 Fontain street, ward 32, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son Jacob and his wife Cillia. [source: 16]

In 1920, his widow, Jane Geisenhoffer, was living at 111 Ryers Avenue, Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son Harry and his family. [source: 17]

The relatives and friends, also Lafayette Lodge, No. 71, A.Y.M.; Girard Mark Lodge, A.Y.M.; Fame Council, No. 15, O.U.A.M.; Northern Liberty Degree Council, Fame Lodge, No. 16, K. of P.; Merchants' Lodge, No. 283, I.O.O.F., and Fourteenth Ward Republican Executive Committee, are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, No. 1231 Melon street, this afternoon, at 1 o'clock. To proceed to Mount Moriah Cemetery.
