John Gentner

Before the war

He was born in 1830/31 (2 (34 in 1865), 3 (34 in 1865), 6 [28 in 1860], 7 [39 in 1870]). He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania (2, 3 [Germany], 6 [Germany], 7 [Prussia]).

In 1860, he was living in ward 19, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Louisa (presumably his wife), and with Catharine and Geo. Nevil (presumably their children) (6). He was a brickmaker (6).

When he enlisted, he was a brickmaker, and was living in Hockendauqua, Pennsylvania (2, 3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2 [light complexion], 3 [dark complexion]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 13 February 1865 (1, 2, 3, 4 [15 Jul 63]). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yerkes (2 [Philadelphia], 3 [Norristown]). He was mustered in as a private in company H, by Captain Yerkes, at Norristown, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3, 8).

The regiment reported him gained on 22 February 1865 (5).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 4). He was a private, in company H (8).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with Louisa (presumably his wife), and with Catharine, Anna, and William (7). He worked in a brickyard, and owned $125 in personal property (7).

In 1890, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4).
