When he enlisted, he was a seaman (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 18 November 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Gilbert (3). He was a private in company G (1, 13).

He was transferred on 4 December 1861 to company A (1, 4, 6, 12).

He was discharged at Frederick, Maryland, on 15 December 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12). He was a private in company A (1, 2, 13).

He also served in F Dale's Battalion, Pennsylvania Cavalry (5, 7, 12).

After the war

In 1881/82, he married Sophia [unknown family name] (9, 10). In 1910, she had had eight children, all of whom were alive (10; 9 [7 in 1900]).

He applied successfully for a pension on 22 June 1886 (5, 7, 12).

In 1890, he was living at 230 Ohio Street, Allegheny, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (8).

In 1900, he was living at 737 Ohio Street, Allegheny City, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (9). He was a dentist (9). He was living with his wife Sophia and children Gertrude, Cecelia, William, John, George, Bertha, and Marcella (9).

He applied for a pension again on 23 February 1907 (5, 12).

In 1910, he was living at 823 Ohio Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (10). He was a dentist (10). He was living with his wife Sophia, and children Cecelia, William, John, George, Bertha, Marcella, and Lawrence, along with three lodgers (10).

In 1920, he was living at 526 Kristle [?] Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (11). He was retired (11). He was living with his wife Sophia, children Cecelia, William, John, George, Bertha, Marcella, and Lawrence, and two boarders (11).

He died on 17 November [?], 1925, at "US [? or 'NS'?] Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania" (5, 12).

Sophia Graham, his widow, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension on 19 [or 11?] December 1925 (5, 7, 12).
