Edwin Hause

Before the war

He was born in 1844 (10; 8 (18 in 1861), 9 [20 in 1863]). He was born in Milton, Pennsylvania (8, 9).

When he enlisted, he was a boatman (8, 9).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 1-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, brown eyes, and light hair (8, 9).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 October 1861 (1 [22 Oct], 8 [18 Oct--but I suspect this is wrong, since he's not enlisted at the same place as other people born in Milton mustered in on the 18th], 13 [18 Oct]). He was enlisted for three years, by Lieutenant Gregory, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was a teamster, in company F (1, 15).

He was promoted on 19 June 1862 to corporal (1, 7, 8).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (12).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 24 December 1863 (1, 9, 11). He was enlisted for three years, at Bealton, Virginia, by Lieutenant W H Carpenter (9).

He was promoted to sergeant on 9 March 1864 (1 has 9 May; 3, 7).

On 17 February 1865, he was promoted to first sergeant, effective 1 January 1865 (1, 5).

He was promoted to first lieutenant on 29 May 1865 (1, 2, 6). He was mustered in by Captain Chamberlain [?] (6).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 11 [27 May 65], 13 [10 Jun]). He was first lieutenant of company F (15).

After the war

On 11 September 1868, he (and Henry Hause (F)) testified that William Conrad (F) died at the hospital near Laurel Hill about 12 May 1864 from a gunshot wound received in the Battle of Laurel Hill, supporting his mother's pension application (14). He was then living in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (14).

In 1890, he was living in Gibson Township or Driftwood Borough, Cameron County, Pennsylvania (11).

On 31 July 1891, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (13, 16).

He again applied for a pension on 5 April 1907 (13).

He died on 26 October 1925, in Dubois, [Clearfield County,] Pennsylvania (13). He was buried in 1925, in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sandy Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania (10).
