Enos B Hickman

Before the war

He was born in 1838 (6; 3 [24, probably in 1863], 4 [23], 7 [12 in 1850], 8 [30 in 1870]). He was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania (3, 4, 7, 8).

In 1850, he was living with Daniel Heckman (presumably his father), and with Samuel, James, George, John, Mark, Eli, and Mary Heckman (perhaps siblings), along with Hannah Thomas (7). He had attended school within the year (7). Daniel was a boatbuilder (7).

When he enlisted, he was a boatman (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair (3, 4 [5'6"]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 27 January 1862 (1, 4, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Furlick [?] (3, 4). He was mustered in at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I (1, 4, 10, 11).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (5).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 25 February 1864 (1, 4). He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4).

He was wounded on 18 or 23 June 1864 (1 [23 Jun], 3 [18 Jun], 4 [23 Jun]).

On 26 March 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 March 1865 (1, 2, 4).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 3, 4, 6). He was a corporal in company I (10, 11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 6, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with Rebecca (presumably his wife) (8). He was a laborer (8).

He was buried in Aulenbachs Cemetery, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania (6).

In 1880, Rebecca Heckman, who may be his widow, was living with her mother Catharine Faust, at 242 Culpehocken Street, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania (9). She was working out (9). She was living with her son George (9).
