In 1860, he was living in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. He was a carpenter, and owned $1,000 in personal property. Perhaps the John Hight, 8 months old, living in the same place with David and Mary Keimer et al., is his son. [sources: 7, 8]

He married [unknown]. They were divorced by 1880. They had one known child:

(Perhaps the James Hight who signed his death certificate, who may be the James Hight born in 1855/56, was a second child of theirs.) [source: 9]

When he enlisted, he was a laborer. [source: 2]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

His service was credited to the seventeenth congressional district. He was a private in company D. [sources: 1, 2, 4, 10]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He was a private, in company D. [sources: 1, 4, 10]

After the war

In 1880, he was living in Brady Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his son John J Hight. He was divorced. He was a carpenter. [source: 9]

On 21 June 1880, he applied successfully for a pension. [sources: 3, 4]

He died on 19 April 1906, in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He died of arteriosclerosis, resulting in feeble [?] heart and general anasarca. He was a carpenter. He was widowed. He was buried in Union Church (also known as Mt Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery), Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 4, 5, 6]
