Xopher Hoak

Before the war

He was born in February, 1833 (7; 3 (32 in 1865), 6 [37 in 1870], 7 [67 in 1900], 8 [77 in 1910], 9 [27 in 1860], 10 [42 in 1880]). He was born in Wurtemburg, Germany (6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

He immigrated in 1851 (8) or 1852 (7).

In 1853/1854, he married Susan [unknown family name] (7). In 1900, she had had five children, three of whom were alive (7).

In 1860, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Susan, with John and Mary (presumably his children), and two other people (9). He was a blacksmith, and owned $1300 in real estate and $300 in personal property (9).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 15 March 1865 (1, 3, 4, 5). He was mustered in as a private, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania (3). He was a private in company B (1, 11, 12, 13).

He may have been charged for lost equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (2).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 4, 5). He was a private, in company B (11, 12, 13).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Susan and (presumed) children John, Mary, and Jeremiah (6). He was a blacksmith, and owned $4,500 in real estate and $400 in personal property (6).

In 1880, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Susan, and sons John and Jeremiah (10). He was a blacksmith (10).

In 1890, he was living in Half Moon Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania (post office Loveville) (4).

On 22 March 1892 he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 14).

In 1900, he was living in Halfmoon Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Susan, a grandson, a servant, and a boarder (7). He was a farmer (7). He was a naturalized citizen (7, 8).

On 1 March 1907, he successfully applied for a pension (1).

In 1910, he was living in Halfmoon Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his grandson and others (8). He was a blacksmith, with his own shop (8). He was a widower (8).

He died in November 1919, at Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania (5).
