Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). His service was credited to the Ninth Congressional District (3). He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 20 July 1863 (1, 3). He served in company G (5). He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Robinson (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2, 5 [1 Jun], 7). He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 7).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 5). He was a private, in company I (7).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Mount Joy Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Mary (presumably his wife), and with Ephraim, Henry, and Sarah (presumably their children (6). He was a day laborer, and owned $100 in personal property (6).

On 18 July 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5).
