Archibald Hull

Before the war

He was born on 12 August 1847 (8 [Aug 1846], 11 [12 Aug 1847]; 2 (18 yrs 7 months in 1865), 3 (18 yrs 7 months in 1865), 6 [26 in 1870], 7 [36 in 1880], 8 [53 in 1900], 9 [63 in 1910], 10 [72 in 1920]). He was born in Pennsylvania (2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

When he enlisted, he was a labo[rer] (2, 3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair (2, 3).

During the war

He was a substitute for Esa Ross (1, 2, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 16 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 4, 12). He was enlisted for one year, at Brighton [presumably Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania], by Captain Cathberten (2, 3). He was mustered in as a private in company K (1, 13). His service was credited to the 9th or 93rd subdivision of the 24th congressional district (2 [93], 3 [9]).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 4, 12). He was a private in company K (13).

After the war

He married Susan [unknown family name] in 1866/68 (8 [33 years in 1900], 9 [44 years in 1910]). She was born in March 1848, in Pennsylvania (8). They apparently had ten children, including (6, 7, 8 (5 children, 5 alive, in 1900), 9 (10 children, 5 alive, in 1910)):

In 1870, he was living in Aleppo Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a farmer, and owned $750 in real estate and $200 in personal property (6). He was living with his wife Susan and children Mary E and Zachariah (6).

In 1880, he was living in Monongalia County, West Virginia (7). He was a farm laborer (7). He was living with his wife Susanne, and children Mary, Zack, William, and Harry (7).

On 10 March 1890, he applied successfully from West Virginia for a pension (4, 12).

In 1890, he was living in Grant, Wetzel County, West Virginia (4). He had catarrh in his head (4).

In 1900, he was living in Grant Township, Wetzel County, West Virginia (8). He was a farmer (8). He was living with his wife Susan, and children Zacharias, William, Simeon, Joseph, and Lulu (8).

In 1910, he was living in Merrion Magisterial District, Preston County, West Virginia (9). He was living with his wife Susan and son Joseph (9). He was a farmer (9).

On 12 [?] December 1910, he again applied for a pension (12).

In 1920, he was living in Portland District, Preston County, West Virginia (10). He was living with his wife Susan, his son Simeon, and Simeon's family (10). He was not working (10).

He died on 18 January 1923, in Radamer, Portland, Preston County, West Virginia (11, 12 [Terra Alta WV]). He was a farmer (11). His wife had died before he did (11). He was buried in Wesley Chapel; the undertaker was A R Fike, of Terra Alta, West Virginia (11).
