Elias [or Ellis] Iddings

Before the war

He was born in March 1849 (6, 12 [1847]; 2 (18 in 1865), 3, 5 [39 in 1880], 6 [51 in 1900], 7 [61 in 1910], 9 [21 in 1870]). He was born in Pennsylvania (2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9). He was probably born to William and Sarah Iddings (9).

When he enlisted, he was a labor[er] (2, 3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 3-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (2, 3).

During the war

He was a substitute for L Ale (1, 2, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 24 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 11). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, by Captain Lloyd (2, 3). He was mustered in as a private in company K (1, 12, 13). His service was credited to the 75th subdivision of the 17th congressional district (2, 3).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 11). He was a private, in company K (13).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Union Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania (9). He was a laborer (9). He was living with his (presumed) parents William and Sarah Iddings, and with various siblings (9).

In 1871/73, he married Elvira [unknown family name] (6 [27 years in 1900], 7 [38/39 years in 1910]). In 1900 and 1910, she had had seven children, five of whom were living (6, 7).

In 1880, he was living in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (5). He was a farmer (5). He was living with his wife Elvira, and his children Thomas, Sylva, Sarah, and Edward (5).

In 1890, he was living in Brady or Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (post office Mill Creek, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania) (10).

On 17 July 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 11).

In 1900, he was living in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a farmer (6). He was living with his wife Elvira, and children Sylva, Jennie, and Sadie (6).

In 1910, he was living on Gerlock Road, Henderson Townshpi, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (7). He was a farmer, on a general farm (7). He was living with his wife Elvira and father William (7).

On 31 March 1911, he again applied for a pension (11).

He died on 31 May 1917, at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania (11).

On 23 June 1917, his widow, Elvira A Iddings, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 11).

In 1920, his widow, Elvira Iddings, was living with her daughter Sara and Sarah's family, at 602 Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon Borough, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (7).
