Jerry Ike

Before the war

He was born on 31 May 1842 (5 [May 1842], 8 [31 May 1842], 9; 2 (23 in 1865), 3 [27 in 1870], 4 [38 in 1880], 5 [58 in 1900], 7 [67 in 1910]). He was born in Warrior's Mark Valley, [Huntingdon County,] Pennsylvania (2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9).

In 1850, he was living in Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with A Bransletter and familhy (6).

He attended the Iron City Commercial College, Pittsburgh (9).

When he enlisted, he was a leacher (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2, 9 [volunteered]). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 15 March 1865 (1, 2). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd (2). He reported for duty on 15 March 1865 (2). His service was credited to the seventeenth congressional district (2). He was a private in company D (1, 10, 11).

According to his obituary, he had a severe attack of rheumatism before he was mustered in, and did not recover until after the war had ended (9).

He was absent, in hospital, when the regiment mustered out (1). He was a private, in company D (10, 11).

After the war

On 19 April 1866, he married Ada Burket (5, 7, 9). In 1900 and 1910, she had had one child, who was not alive (5, 7, 9).

In 1867, he moved to Tyrone (9). He taught in the public schools for several years (9). He was a member of the borough council, and was a school director (9).

In 1870, he was living in Tyrone Borough, Blair County, Pennsylvania (3). He was a carpenter, and owned $2,000 in real estate and $100 in personal property (3). He was living with his wife Ada and child Edgar (3).

In 1880, he was living in Tyrone Borough, Blair County, Pennsylvania (4). He was a school teacher (4). He was living with his wife Addie and son Edgar (4).

He established a general store on Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone (9).

He lived in Tyrone until 1892, when he sold his store to Mingle Brothers (9). He then moved to Altoona (9).

In 1900, he was living at 601 6th Avenue, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (5). He was a dry goods merchant (5). He was living with his wife Addie (5).

In 1910, he was living at 601 6th Street, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (7). He was retired (7). He was living with his wife Addie and a servant (7).

On 10 July 1916, at 4.20 AM, he died at his home, 601 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (8). He was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (8). He was a member of Tyrone Lodge Number 494, Free and Accepted Masons (9). He was a member of the Second United Brethren Church, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania (9).

His wife, Addie Burket Ike, died in 1925 (8).
