When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 19 February 1864. He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hildeburn. He was a private in company A. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 16]

He was wounded on 30 September 1864 at Peeble's Farm, Virginia. [source: 1]

After the war

In 1871/72, he married Mary Jane [unknown family name]. She was born in March 1848, in Pennsylvania. They had seven children, including these:

In 1910, his wife, Mary J Jones, was living in Edgemont Township, Delaware, Pennsylvania. She was living with their children Sterling, William, and Sarah. [source: 12]

In 1920, his wife, Mary J Jones, was living on Middletown Road, Edgemont Township, Delaware, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son Sterling W Jones. [source: 13]

His spouse, Mary Jane Jones, died in 1929. She was buried in Cumberland Cemetery, Media, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. [source: 6]

In 1930, he was living on Edgemont Road, Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his daughter Sara and her family. He was retired. [source: 8]
