Before the war

He was born in 1816/17 (6 (44 in 1861), 10 [75 at death in 1892], 11 [42 in 1860], 12 [66 in 1880]). He was born in Warford, Ireland (6, 10, 11, 12).

In 1860, he was living in ward 19, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with Mary (presumably his wife), and with Rebecca, Phoebe, Elizabeth, William, Martha, Edward, John, Thomas, and Mary (presumably their children) (11). He was a paver (11).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and black hair (6).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as second corporal on 10 September 1861 (1, 4, 6, 7). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Charles Brown (6). He was in company H (1, 13 [corp]). He had gun number 107 (6).

He was promoted to first corporal, perhaps effective 26 April 1862, replacing John Miller (4).

He was discharged at camp near Falmouth, Virginia, on 20 March 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 3 [no date], 5, 6, 7). He was a sergeant, in company H (1, 13).

After the war

On 23 December 1879, he applied successfully for a pension (8, 9).

In 1880, he was living at 204 [?] Albert Street, ward 31, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his wife Mary and son Thomas (12). He was a stone mason and shoe maker (12). He had a "weak spine" (12).

He attended the 1884 meeting of the 91st's Survivors' Association (2).

In 1890, he was living at 1905 Albert Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).

On 8 January 1892, he died, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of capillary bronchitis resulting from an attack of influenza (9, 10). He was married (10). He was a mason (10). He died at, or was buried from, 1905 Albert Street, 31st ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). On 11 January 1892, he was buried, at New Cathedral Cemetery (10).

On 25 April 1892, his widow, Mary M Jones, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (8, 9).
