91st PA: Thomas Kelly

Thomas Kelly

Before the war

He was born in 1844/45 (2 (17 in 1862)).

During the war

He enlisted in company A of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 13 August 1862 (1, 2).

He was promoted to acting corporal after the Battle of Shepherdstown (2).

He was promoted to sergeant after the battle of Fredericksburg, in December 1862 (2).

He was promoted to "left general guide" in October 1863 (2).

He was promoted to first sergeant in May 1864 (2).

He was promoted to first lieutenant in May 1865 (2).

He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania as a first lieutenant (1, 2, 4). However, because the 91st had no vacancies for a first lieutenant, he was mustered out effective the day the 118th Pennsylvania mustered out (1 June 1865) (2).

He was not assigned to a company of the 91st (1, 3).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 8 December 1890 and 11 March 1907 (1).

He died on 10 August 1918, at the National Soldiers' Home, in Virginia (1).

Note

I have not included him in the database, because he was mustered out effective when the 118th was mustered out.
