During the war

He also served in company E of the 47th Pennsylvania Infantry (5, 6, 7). He enlisted on 2 September 1861, at Easton, [Northampton County,] Pennsylvania (7, 10). He was mustered in on 16 September 1861, at Harrisburg, [Dauphin County,] Pennsylvania (6, 7, 10).

On 25 January 1862, he deserted, at Washington DC (6, 7, 10).

According to the January-February, March-April, May-June, and July-August muster rolls for company E of the 47th Pennsylvania, he was under arrest in Washington, DC. [source: 10]

According to the September-October 1862 muster roll for company E of the 47th Pennsylvania, he '[l]eft the regiment at Washington D.C. drunk and [they had] not hear[d] from [him] since'. He was dropped from their rolls. [source: 10]

Perhaps he was transferred to the 91st, and the order either never reached the 47th Pennsylvania, or was never properly recorded.

According to the 91st's records, he enlisted and was mustered into service on 15 September 1861. He was a private in company D. [sources: 1, 3, 5, 9]

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. [source: 4]

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer. [source: 1]

He died on 7 March 1864. He was a private, in company D. [sources: 1, 2, 5, 9]
