Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 2-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair. [source: 4]

During the war

He was a substitute. His service was credited to the Third Congressional District. He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 20 July 1863. He enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a private, in company E of the 118th Pennsylvania. [sources: 1 (20 Jul 65), 2, 3, 4, 6]

He was captured at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on 2 June 1864. [sources: 1, 2]

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to company I of the 91st Pennsylvania. He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania. [sources: 1, 3, 5, 9]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He was a private, in company I. [sources: 1, 4, 5, 6, 9]

After the war

On 18 February 1891, he died. He was buried in Jeannette Memorial Cemetery, Jeannette, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. His grave has (or at least had) a Grand Army of the Rebublic marker. [sources: 6, 7, 8]
